I'm Lauren, your new favourite hiking vlogger and traveller. When I'm not traipsing down trails, you can find me planning my next big adventure from my home base in Vancouver, BC.
I live for wide open spaces, towering trees, and sleeping under the stars. After thru-hiking the PCT and Colorado Trail, I took on the Hexatrek and recently became the first North American woman to complete it! I'm all about sharing my passion for the outdoors and helping others adventure into the wild.
On my channel, you'll find tips for planning your first backpacking trip, vlogs from trails near and far, and more nature than you can handle. I'll take you from the rainforests of Vancouver to the red rock deserts of Utah, through the French Alps and Ecuadorian Andes and back again.
Where will I adventure next? Stay tuned to find out!
Let's find out what else Mother Nature has in store together. The trail awaits!

Trail Angels in the Tararuas | New Zealand's Te Araroa Trail Vlog 23
We finish our journey through the Tararuas, ending with a breathtaking sunset that perfectly captures the beauty of this rugged terrain.
As our adventure comes to a close, the trio sadly splits up. Tim continues on the Te Araroa Trail, while Josh and I are picked up by a lovely trail angel for a few days of much-needed rest in Palmerston North. During our stay, we spend time with adorable cats, catch up with friends, and even take a trip to a local farm.

You have your own camera man👍. That's nice and brings new perspectives and it makes youtubers life easier🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍☺
I came across your super interesting interview / podcast on Backpacker Radio. Currently watching your Hexatrek video, they are awesome. Hexatrek is on the cards for me next year. I'm from NZ, so will watch your T.A vids soon. In a weeks time I'm off to the US to do both the C.T and JMT (both for the 2nd time).
@@stirlingslingerland4547 so glad you’re enjoying the series! Welcome :) and best of luck in the states! I loved the CT
Looking forward to the full vid.
The first part will be out tomorrow!
<Smiling> <❤>
Is this Tolkien Lore
Yes!
That must be a really great and challenging trail to hike on a beautiful day. Of course even more challenging and dangereous on the dat you did it. I'm glad you had a hut at the end and that you decided to stay out there a day. Mother Nature can be in predictable. Good one Lauren! 😊
Couldn't agree more!
Lost and Found your tripod! I'm happy for you! As a UA-camr I understand how important that is...😉 Nice that you guys are waiting for your friend Tim. Humid, but looking good! 😁👍 All the best, Kaat
Yes! Thank you!
Congratulations on finishing the South Island.🎉 Sorry you didn't win the lottery, but you did find accommodation in Wellington. 😊 Road walking is never fun, so I understand very well why you skipped it! I'm curious to see more of the Northern Island. Have a great Sunday! Kaat
Yes! Thank you! ☺️

Goblin forest in snow is something else. Glad you guys are all good never underestimate NZ s crazy changable weather. And nice footage. Capture the Tararuas vibe beautifully.
Thank you! This was a very unique section!
Wow ! What a adventure your having! Those plants are so alien and beautiful!
Feels like another planet sometimes!
How is the weather during August?
Probably hot?
Isometrics and a "Nalgene Baby" would have kept you ok
You're a super "badass" though. I really appreciate your videos.
Congrats on completing the South Island.👏 Beautiful. You guys are fun.
Thank you! We have a lot of fun hiking together!
..
Great vlog! Whereabouts were you in the section from about 9:00 mins onwards? Scenery looked like it could be out of a western..
Totally does! Somewhere north of Martha’s saddle on the TA :)
The colours in this video are just AMAZING !!! The blues, the oranges, pinks and greens (especially when overlooking the hills) love love love ❤❤❤. Lauren reveals her true self (a cat person 😂). Seeing how it works down on the farm more fun than a road walk. Yay !!! Tongariro and "round the mountain" perfect 💯
Thank you so much 😀 and yes I like cats 🐈⬛ haha
This is just so beautiful. Miss NZ.😢😢😢
It sure is!
Cool stuff. That one calf looked like he had a plastic nose, it was so black.
Totally! They were so cute ☺️
Great opportunity to rest w such lovely people and cats! Good luck in the mountains!!
It was so nice! I had a really good time on my days off :)
Maravilha os vídeos!! Abraços aqui do Brasil!!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Well, I can't always be first, I guess😂😂
😂😂 so close!
Road walking sux. Good on you for skipping it. This is your journey.
Absolutely. I didn’t go all the way to NZ to walk on the side of a highway lol 😆
<Whistling> literally cool footage capture. Wow. It's unbelievable <nodding head> . Glad your all alive, lauren.
Thanks!
Music good in the Goblin forest.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lauren Roerick-Jupiter!!
Glad you made it to that hut. The Tararuas are dangerous, and I'm surprised that you filmed it in those conditions, honestly.
Yep the weather was crazy! Was happy to see the hut for sure :) and I try to share as much as I can of this experience- even the crazy parts!
I know you don't mind solo hiking but what a great time having two people along to entertain you, help film, and keep you going when it's raining and cold!!!
Absolutely! I was very glad to do this with those two, and so nice to have some help filming it- I never would have gotten so much footage without them!
What a section to hike! I'd be on all fours dragging my pack on those slopes. The WIND!! Great to see you all made it with a smile on your face. Happy hiking and thanks for taking us along on your "detour" hike.
I was definitely crawling in some sections when the drop offs on each side got too steep! There were more than I few times I slipped and fell as well. It was treacherous out there! Glad you enjoyed coming along for the ride.
I couldn’t do what you do. Not sure if I’d want to do what you do. But I love watching you do what you do. Another great video. Stay safe. Happy trails.
Thank you! This was a tough section with some crazy curveballs. Glad you enjoyed it
And that right there my friends is the Tararuas !! Best video of the Goblin Forrest ever (just magical) 💯👏
Thank you! Glad I was able to capture its magic 🪄
Wow that was so good. One of my favorite episodes. Some sketchy shit right there, plus awesome and beautiful as well. Always good to see Elmo pop up as well 😆. Great team effort too. Good job girl!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :) I had fun, mostly in hindsight 😅
I've done Burtons Track, and the manawatu gorge, the other end of the Tararua's and I want to do this, but in the summer!
Haha yes- I think summer would definitely be better!
A particularly wonderful segment, with video sections so well matched with music!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You can see even in the north it can turn. North of there the police sgt in charge of search and rescue was organising some training in hills for manawutu staff. He had to be rescued as weather turned on him
I’m not surprised! The weather is intense through there!
The Tararua Range has a reputation for catching out even the most experienced trampers. Definitely not to be taken lightly, glad you seem to have enjoyed it overall.
It sure does! The wind was just crazy!
Coucou (Bonjour !! 😊) oh my god so tiny in its huge mountains! With just one stick RIP 😑 Always amazing 😮😊
I was really missing my second hiking stick here!
Wow, that alternante route was really beautiful until the winds and the rain hit. I'm glad yall made it through ok. Such crazy weather yall have gone through. Great video. I'm glad the hypothermia was not to serious
The TA sure has some intense weather! Glad we all made it through in one piece! :)
Thats quite an adventurous detour right through the center of the range but if you've got above average fitness/experience, bit of extra food then its quite worth it. 1 day of fine weather in the Tararua's (thus far) isn't bad; I think in the history of hiking up there literally NO ONE has had fine weather the whole time (or even a lot of the time!)
Haha so true! They’re notoriously unpredictable
Baptsim of fire.
🔥
Excellent
👌🏼
Well done the 3 of you. South Island shallie Rock. North Island muddy bog.
Thanks! It was a real adventure!
Travelling more than 1km per hour in the Tararua’s is fast 😆
Haha this is what I’ve learned 😅
And for all those people that watch this and don't leave a Like and Sub and Comment, what are you even doing with your life!?!
Exactly!
Lauren you are The best
Perfect time to be down to one pole! Not dangerous at all... note to self: don't let your mom see this episode! Those ridges were insane and that Goblin Forest? Come on!
I was really missing that second pole on this stretch 😭 but that goblin forest was so magical
Blimey!!!
Indeed! 😅
Tararuas are unlike anything else. Super dangerous
They are certainly intense!
"I like to make the sandwich in my mouth. It tastes better."
😂 a solid strategy
Same
😂😅
